CPS - Building a Lesson Database

This course is designed for teachers in CMCSS to make and share lessons/question sets created with the CPS software. (A prior knowledge of lesson creation is important. This course is NOT for simply importing Examview Questions into CPS. The class for using Examview with CPS is "CPS - Advanced Topics" and the documents are kept on a separate page in this wiki.

How to Create a Lesson/Set of Questions

How to Get Lessons/Questions Out of CPS

After building the lesson, you will want to share this lesson with others. Rather than simply handing your laptop to another teacher, you will want to EXPORT the CPS lesson.

To EXPORT Lesson/Set of Questions
  1. Inside the CPS Database window, click once on the lesson's name you wish to share from the left panel.
  2. Click the IMPORT/EXPORT button.
  3. From the drop-down menu, choose EXPORT TO CXM...
  4. Change the file's name in the next window, but DON"T DELETE the ".CXM" from the end of the name. For our purposes, name your file by the Grade, Subject, and Topic. (i.e. 2ndMathRegroupingAddition)
  5. Choose a place to save it on your computer.
  6. Click SAVE.

To IMPORT Lesson/Set of Questions
  1. If you receive the CPS lesson in an email as an attachment you must drag it to your desktop or store it in your documents.
  2. Next open up CPS as usual.
  3. In the lesson title box, click CPS DATABASE
  4. Click the IMPORT/EXPORT button.
  5. From the drop-down menu, choose IMPORT FROM CXM
  6. Search for the file you put on your computer earlier and Choose it.
  7. The lesson will then appear in your CPS database of lessons.

How to Share the Lesson/Questions You Created

Once you have created the questions and exported the CXM file to your desktop, it will need to be shared with us to be posted on the CMCSS-Tech_Lessons Wiki.
Right click on the CXM file (control/click on a Mac) and choose copy.
Log on to the CMCSS Staff server and paste the exported lesson file into the Dropbox of your class facilitator.
*The tech coach teaching the class will walk everyone through this process during the last few minutes of the class.
